Divine Poker Showdown

Objective: Achieve the most powerful 5-card poker hand using the Prayer Cards

  1. Gather 2-5 devout players to engage in the Divine Poker Showdown. You can form teams if desired, ensuring an even number of players (e.g., 10 players can form 5 teams of 2).

  2. To determine the first dealer, draw cards and let the player with the highest card take the honored position.

  3. Commence the game by dealing 2 Prayer Cards to each player. Place the remaining Prayer Cards face-down in the center, forming the Divine Deck.

  4. The dealer will draw the topmost card from the Divine Deck. The dealer then turns to the player on their left (clockwise) and presents the card, asking if the player can discern the corresponding Bible verse or recite the verse outright. If the player accurately identifies the verse (after the dealer reveals it), they win the card. Alternatively, if the player chooses to recite the entire verse (after the dealer announces it), they claim the card and may draw a card from the Divine Deck to keep. The dealer retains the card if the player fails to identify the verse. However, if the dealer dislikes the card they hold, they can swap it with the failed player's card.

  5. Each player or team is granted a divine time limit of 1 minute to provide their answer.

  6. The end of the round varies based on the number of players: a. For 4-5 players/teams, the round concludes when all the cards from the Divine Deck are exhausted. b. If only 2 or 3 players/teams are participating, the game concludes when all players/teams possess at least 10 cards or when the Divine Deck is depleted.

  7. At the conclusion of the rounds, employ the cards in your possession to form a 5-card poker hand.

  8. Hand rankings from lowest to highest: [High card (no pair) < One pair < Two pairs < Trips (three of a kind) < Straight < Flush < Full house < Quads (four of a kind) < Straight flush < Royal flush].

  9. The game incorporates two Divine Jokers, which function as wild cards. The jokers possess the power to transform into any card you desire. Note: In the event of a tie for the highest hand, a hand devoid of a joker prevails over a hand containing a joker. For instance, a player/team with a straight consisting of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 would beat a hand with a clever straight employing a joker, such as 2, 3, Joker, 5, 6.

  10. In cases of a tie without any jokers, the victor between two players/teams both holding a straight (e.g., 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) is determined by the suit of the highest card. In this scenario, the suit of the highest card, specifically the suit of the 6, holds the determining factor. The hierarchy of suits, from least to greatest, is as follows: clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades.

Game Add-ons:

  1. Double Up: When a player chooses to win 2 cards by reciting the Bible verse, the dealer will offer the option to double or nothing. If the player chooses to double up, the dealer will draw the next card from the Divine Deck, and the player must recite the corresponding Bible verse to win an additional 2 cards. Failure to do so will result in the loss of the previously won 2 cards. Doubling up is only allowed after winning 2 cards.

  2. Assist: If a player chooses to win 2 cards by reciting the Bible verse and is running out of time, they can ask the dealer to read the first 3 words of the verse to provide a little assistance in recalling the verse. Or the player can ask in which Bible book the verse is from. However, choosing this assistance forfeits the opportunity to win two cards, and the player can only win a single card.

  3. For Beginners: In this game, the dealer will recite a complete Bible verse, and the player sitting to the left must guess which verse it is. If the player correctly identifies the book where the verse is found, they win one card. If the player can name both the book and chapter, they win two cards. And if the player can accurately identify the book, chapter, and verse, they win three cards.

FAQ:

Q: How much of the verse must be recited to be considered correct when reciting the entire Bible verse? A: If more than 50% of the verse is recited, and the dealer agrees that the meaning of the verse was conveyed without compromise, it will be considered correct.

Q: What happens if a player/team ends up with fewer than 5 cards? A: If a player/team possesses fewer than 5 cards at the end of the game, they will not have a valid poker hand and will be unable to compete for the highest hand.

Q: What is the best way to play this game? A: Many players find more enjoyment in playing this game as a team. Having more players on a team increases the chances of someone on the team being knowledgeable about the Bible verses.

Q: Can you play a tournament? A: Yes! If multiple games are played simultaneously, the winners of each game can come together for a smaller game until one team is crowned the champion.

Q: Can we study the deck before playing? A: Of course! If all the players agree to study the deck before playing, you can divide it and choose how long you want to study them. Example: If there are four players, give two players 13 cards and the other two players 14 cards. Study them for 2 minutes and rotate until everyone is done studying all 54 cards.

Memorization Game

(VIDEO COMING SOON)

Number of Players: 2 or more

 Materials Needed:

• Prayer Cards deck

• Timer

Game Setup:

1. Shuffle the Prayer Cards deck.

2. Each player takes five cards from the deck and studies them for 2 minutes, memorizing the Bible verses on the cards.

3. After studying, players place their cards face down in front of them.

Gameplay - Heads Up Play (1 on 1):

1. Determine who goes first. This player will be the Dealer for the first turn.

2. The Dealer selects one card from their opponent's pile without revealing it to them.

3. The Dealer reads the Bible verse on the selected card aloud.

4. The opposing player has to guess the correct Bible verse. They must provide the book, chapter, and verse number(s).

5. If the player guesses correctly, they win the card and place it in their winner stack. If they guess incorrectly, the Dealer wins the card and adds it to their winner stack.

6. After each turn, the roles switch, and the player who was guessing becomes the new Dealer.

7. Players continue taking turns until all five cards have been used.

8. After the first round, both players pick a new set of five cards each, study them for 2 minutes, and play another round.

9. The game continues until one player wins a predetermined number of cards, such as 21 or any other number you choose.

Note:

• You can modify the game by adjusting the number of cards needed to win or the number of guesses allowed.

• To make the game more challenging, instead of the Dealer reading the entire verse, they can simply announce the verse, and the player must recite it from memory.

Gameplay - More than Two Players:

1. Follow the same setup and gameplay as in the Heads Up Play.

2. The Dealer starts by reciting the Bible verse from the selected card to the player on their left.

3. If the player guesses correctly, they win the card and add it to their winner stack.

4. If the player guesses incorrectly, the next player to their left has a chance to steal the card.

5. Repeat this process, going clockwise, until the card either returns to the Dealer, who adds it to their winner stack, or someone successfully guesses the verse and claims the card.

6. After each turn, the Dealer role passes to the next player in the circle.

7. Continue playing until a champion is determined by reaching a specific number of won cards or by another predetermined condition.

Remember to have fun and enjoy the challenge of memorizing and reciting Bible verses!
